Men's Basketball Ticket Procedures

Basketball season has finally arrived.  All of the time and effort that has gone into attending events to cheer on the Flyers is now going to pay off.  Hopefully, you have earned enough points to get you front at center at UD Arena.  This will be one of the most exciting years in UD Basketball history, and reading all of the following information will make the ticket distribution process run smoothly for all involved.

But, you may be wondering how exactly the process works.  All of the information you need to know is listed here, so read on:

It all starts with Vouchers. . .

In order to obtain tickets on the Preferred distribution date (when 90% of all tickets are distributed), you must purchase the Preferred Ticket Vouchers.  If you decide not to purchase these, you still have a good chance of getting tickets, but they will be much further from the court than if you had purchased the vouchers (depending on your number of accumulated Spirit Points).  In the case of a student deciding not to purchase ticket vouchers, the Spirit Points he or she had earned are irrelevant.

Ticket vouchers will be sold on Friday, October 30, in the Frericks Center Gym.  The price of the vouchers is $35 for the season, and will include the 2009 Red Scare Basketball T-Shirt.  These vouchers will later be redeemed for basketball tickets, and individuals who choose to purchase them will be capable of picking up their tickets on the Preferred Distribution date.  You must bring your student ID card and form of payment (cash or credit card) along to Frericks from 5:00-7:00 to purchase these vouchers.  You will receive a sheet with 16 perforated vouchers (1 for each game).  DO NOT lose these vouchers, as there are no replacements under any circumstances.

So what’s next?

Along with the vouchers, you will receive a sheet outlining each of the Preferred Distribution

Dates.  This sheet will also include the dates that registration for each distribution will open and close, and the Voucher numbers corresponding with each distribution.  Prior to these registration dates, students should decide who they would like to sit with at the games (group can include between 1 and 6 people total, and can change from distribution to distribution, if desired).  Prior to the opening of registration, Red Scare will send out all the necessary information regarding the distribution.  Be sure to register for Red Scare’s mailing list at http://www.udaytonredscare.com/register.php to receive all of the vital information.  Once the registration period begins, students will create and join these groups through the SPS Portal powered by Ticketmaster.  Registration begins at 12:00am the day listed as the registration opening, and closes at 3:00pm the day listed as the registration closing.  An explanation of how to log-in, check your points, create a group, and join a group can be found at http://www.udaytonredscare.com/spirit_points.php.

Once 3:00 hits, the registration is closed.  No additional registrations will be accepted after this time.  The system will then average the points for each group, and rank the groups accordingly.  Later that night, students will receive an e-mail containing an excel spreadsheet containing the names of the groups and the appropriate group ranking (the group name should be searched for to discover the ranking).  This e-mail will also contain the location of the distribution, corresponding ticket voucher numbers for that day, and a listing of assigned distribution time slots (ex:  Groups ranks 1-50 @ 3:00, 51-100 @ 3:15, etc).  Distribution for that group will begin NO LATER THAN the listed time.  Keep reading for more information about the day of the distribution itself.

So, I’ve got my ranking and timeslot.  Now what?

Now it is the day of the distribution, and you are ready to pick up your tickets.  Prior to going to the distribution, each group should select a member (max of 2, please) who will pick up the tickets for his or her group (if none of the group members are available, a friend or other representative not included in the group can also redeem the tickets).  This individual should collect all the appropriate ticket vouchers for that distribution from each member of his or her group FOR THE GAMES THAT WILL BE ATTENDED.  If there are individuals that will not be attending certain games because of prior commitments, don’t redeem the tickets for these games.  A voucher will be needed to collect a ticket – no voucher, no ticket.  In addition, the group’s representative should have knowledge of his or her group’s rank, timeslot, designated group name, and group password.  All of these will be necessary to ensure the distribution runs smoothly.

Now at the distribution. . .

Bringing all of this information and your vouchers along, arrive at the location included in the Red Scare e-mail for that distribution.

Note:   It is strongly recommended that your group representative arrives 5 minutes prior to your listed time slot.  If the appropriate time slot has arrived and a group’s name is called that has not yet arrived, that group will be sent to the end of the appropriate slot.  Ex:  If group rank 5 has not yet arrived when the individual checking in groups comes to them, they will be moved to rank 50.  If the group is still not present at the beginning of the following timeslot, they will be moved to the end of that slot.  This will continue until the distribution is completed.  If a group fails to arrive during the duration of the distribution, their preferred status for that distribution will be lost, and they will only be eligible for tickets through the secondary distribution procedures.

When you arrive at the distribution, there will be Red Scare executives at the door directing you to the proper location.  When you arrive in line, talk to the other students about your rank and theirs, and line up accordingly.  As the distribution begins, other Red Scare executives will come by with staplers and Sharpies to staple your vouchers by game, and mark the number of tickets you will be picking up.  Finally, one Red Scare executive will be “running” the distribution.  He will be holding a clip board with a list of the groups, their ranks, and other information.  He will call groups by their rank, and then ask for your group’s name and password.  After you have been given the OK by this executive, continue onto the Ticket table (or the end of the line, behind the group in front of you).  When you arrive at the table, tell the Athletics employee the number of tickets you are picking up for each game, and hand him or her your group’s vouchers.  They will, in turn, hand you the appropriate number of tickets, all located next to each other at the game, and you are done.  You can now leave and continue with your day.

When going to UD Arena for the game, be sure to bring your Student ID along with these tickets, as both are required to obtain admission to the game.

So what if I didn’t purchase vouchers, or my group missed the distribution?

The next business day following the preferred distribution, any remaining tickets will be available for any students who have not yet received tickets.  Only a student ID is needed to obtain these tickets (vouchers are not necessary, nor will they give the holders any special privileges).  They will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis at the KU Box Office.  The Box Office is open from 9am-3pm on business days.  These tickets may be limited in quantity, and tend to sell out fast, so students who arrive early have a better chance of receiving the remaining tickets.

It’s GAME DAY.  Now What?

In order to gain admission to UD Arena for the Men’s Basketball games, each student must enter the Student Entrance, located on the side of The Arena facing Welcome Stadium.  There will be a police officer checking student ID Cards at the door.  EACH STUDENT MUST HAVE THEIR STUDENT ID CARD TO ENTER THE ARENA.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  In addition, student tickets cannot be used by a non-student.  For each game, free shuttles will transport students without transportation to and from UD Arena.  These busses leave from G-Lot (Gosiger Hall), and will also drop students off there after the game.  Bus schedules are announced a few days prior to each game.  Unlike other UD Sports, seating at UD Arena for the Men’s Basketball games are reserved, so find the seat number on your ticket and enjoy.

UD Arena is one of the great venues for College Basketball in the nation, and the atmosphere ranks with some of the loudest and most intimidating anywhere.  So GET PUMPED, HAVE FUN, WEAR RED, MAKE SOME NOISE, AND HELP THE FLYERS CAPTURE AN ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP AND MAKE ANOTHER RUN FOR THE NCAA TOURNAMENT.
