Possibly the BIGGEST MBB Game of the Year! |
Yep, you read the subject line correctly. Wednesday’s game vs Charlotte could possibly be the biggest game of the 2009-2010 Men’s Basketball season to date for a variety of reasons:
1) Charlotte currently sits in first place of the Atlantic 10 at 8-1, a record that includes a victory over #15 Temple. Dayton is 5-3. A win Wednesday will help pull UD that much closer to 1st place. Likewise, a loss will all but eliminate the Flyers from Atlantic 10 Championship contention.
2) At 5-3, Dayton sits 6th in the A10 standings. The top 4 teams in the standings at the end of the regular season earn a first-round bye in the Atlantic 10 tournament. Only 1 team in the 14 years that UD has been a member of the Atlantic 10 has won 4 games in 4 days to win the conference tournament. To sum it up – the Flyers NEED to earn that first round bye.
3) Joe Lunardi of ESPN.com has released his latest Bracketology today, and UD has moved from one of his “Next 4 Out” to one of his “Last 4 In.” What does this mean? Well, for one, if the season were to end today, Lunardi believes UD would be selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament. This also means that another loss, especially at home, will greatly hurt the chances of the Flyers earning another at-large bid this year.
So, where are you going to be Wednesday night? I would hope that, after reading this, you’ll be at UD Arena helping make the atmosphere LOUDER and MORE INTIMIDATING than it has been all year.
Don’t have a ticket yet? Just bring your student ID to the KU Box Office from 9am – 3pm. Any student can pick up a ticket as long as they are available! |

THE MARCH |
THIS IS IT. The Xavier game. The atmosphere on Saturday will undoubtedly make UD Arena one of the most enthusiastic, electric, and intimidating environments in all of college athletics.
To help heighten this atmosphere, we are asking all students to wear a white shirt over top of their normal Red Scare or Red Out shirt. This white shirt will be worn for the duration of the first-half. At halftime, the song Sandstorm will be played, as it is at every game. Once the first note of the song plays, the entire student section will stand up and remove their white shirts as one, revealing the traditional red color. You can then use this white shirt as a towel to dance to the song for the rest of the half. Doing this will help energize the entire crowd at UD Arena, and will build the momentum as the second half beings.
Prior to the game, join Red Scare for THE MARCH. Over 500 UD students will march as one from campus to UD Arena before Saturday’s matchup vs Xavier. Please meet in the Frericks Center Parking Lot at 10:50am on Saturday, February 6th. Speaking from a personal standpoint, the March has been one of the things I remember most about the UD-Xavier games, and I can guarantee you will feel the same way after Saturday, so DON’T MISS IT! |

Drive 75, Distribution Registration, and THE MARCH |
The Drive 75 final collection for any canned goods, non-perishables, and cash donations will take place Thursday, February 4th, from 6:00 – 9:30 in the KU Hangar. All donations will be weighed and/or counted, then taken by Red Scare to be delivered to the St Vincent de Paul Food Banks. The winners of Drive 75 will be presented with the award on Tom Blackburn Court during pre-game of Saturday’s Men’s Basketball game vs Xavier.
Even if you’re not a part of a group, we welcome and encourage all members to donate canned goods and cash donations to Drive 75, as each donation will go to help someone in need during the cold winter months. Thank you in advance to all who participate!
Registration for Distribution 7 closes tomorrow, February 4, at 12:00 noon. Instructions on how to log-in and register through the SPS Portal powered by Ticketmaster can be found by clicking on “Spirit Points.” Make sure you follow each of the listed instructions, as a failure to do so could cause issues, and some of these issues cannot be resolved immediately.
This distribution will take place on Friday, February 5, beginning at 3:00 in the Frericks Center Gym, and is for vouchers 15 and 16 (Charlotte and La Salle). Information about exact timeslots, group rankings, and further instructions will be sent Thursday evening.
Join Red Scare for THE MARCH. Over 500 UD students will march as one from campus to UD Arena before Saturday’s matchup vs Xavier. Please meet in the Frericks Center Parking Lot at 10:50am on Saturday, February 6th. FREE DONUTS will be available for all who attend!
**Also, some of you have noticed that Saturday’s game has been deemed a “White Out” for the general public. However, as is the case at all games, we are still asking all Red Scare members to continue to wear RED for this game.
Come out and meet the 2009 A10 Champion Flyer Baseball team, Head Coach Tony Vittorio, Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brian Gregory, and Washington Nationals Starter and UD Alum Craig Stammen during Meet the Team Night on Tuesday, February 9th, in the Frericks Center Gym. FREE FOOD will be available for all in attendance, as well as the opportunity to win UD Apparel and Autographed Merchandise! Please RSVP to georgers@notes.udayton.edu if you plan on attending. How Strong is Your Group’s Drive?? Be a Part of Drive 75! |
There is still time for you to be a part of Drive 75!
Drive 75 is Red Scare’s annual service event, which takes place the week before the home men’s basketball game vs. Xavier. In the past it was a competition between Xavier and Dayton to see who could collect the most non-perishable and canned food goods, but recently has shifted to a competition solely within the Flyer Faithful and UD fans.
All donated goods are collected to benefit Secret Smiles and The Dayton Area Food Bank. Secret Smiles is the organization Yvette Gregory, Coach Gregory’s wife, works with to provide beds and warm bedding to local people in need.
All individuals are encouraged to participate! Groups of any size can register by clicking the link to the left. Groups will be divided into two categories: those with less than 50 members and those with more than 50 members. The winner from each category will receive a plaque and be presented on court during the UD/Xavier home game!
Not in a group on campus? Not a problem! Individuals can donate to barrels in residence halls, other registered groups participating, or getting a few friends together to form a new group!
This year’s Drive 75 will start on Monday, January 25 and last until Thursday, February 4, 2010! Barrels will be placed in residence halls for anonymous donations and barrels will be outside the arena during the home basketball game vs. Rhode Island on Tuesday, January 26 at 7 pm for community donations. Groups wishing to participate in the competition can donate their groups’ items on Monday, February 1, 2010 at Art Street Studio B from 8:30 – 10:30 pm or Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the KU Hangar from 6 – 9:30 pm.
